Two towns, states & characters


"Not many people know that somewhere off the modern highways in the northern region lies two distinctly different towns, located in two neighbouring States and separated only by a small river that’s only 100m wide, writes ALAN TEH LEAM SENG

SCANNING my old road map bought over a decade ago (I still like it as it shows all the old trunk roads that most new maps have omitted), it dawns upon me that Parit Buntar is merely a stone’s throw away from where I stay.

My eyes light up as I have always wanted to visit this place ever since I bought a 1914 picture postcard addressed to a resident of the town. However, the recipient’s address was written as Paris Buntar! I can’t help chuckling when I think of the French sender who wistfully thought that there was a town on the other side of the world named after his nation’s capital."
